Gareth Evans Talks About The Remake Of The Raid: Redemption (POTENTIAL SPOILERS)

IGN reports that Gareth Evans, director of The Raid talked about the franchise at Kapow in London during the Momentum Showcase at the Comic Convention. He discussed the remake as well as his plans for a sequel.

He said the remake would have some changes because the original was "a movie in a foreign language with a star nobody knew and a director nobody knew." He added that there won't be any major changes. Evans is the executive producer and Iko Uwais, the Indonesian star from the original, will choreograph the action.

He said that it was important for him to not direct the remake himself. He added: "I'm not remaking it myself. My approach is to be hands off; in order for them to do the job properly they need to be given freedom."

When Evans was still writing The Raid, he was focused on another project calledBerandal. When he saw the positive reception for The Raid, he re-wrote "about 15 percent" of the Berandal script to become a sequel. He is planning a full trilogy. Filming will begin in January 2013 and he hopes to release the film by "the tail end of next year". In what could be a spoiler, he added that the character of Mad Dog will return in some form.

When asked if he was getting any Hollywood offers, he said he hasn't because of the violence in his films. He said: "I make violent movies, so I don't quite fit the Hollywood mould… yet. But at the moment I can make smaller films that allow me to do what I want."
